Daniel Garcia is a Mexican American movement artist, educator, and dance filmmaker born and raised in the binational cities of Juárez, Chihuahua, and El Paso, Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with a concentration in Performance and Choreography from Texas State University and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance from Texas Woman’s University. Garcia's current research investigates the development of high-intensity movement through pedagogical strategies that provide access to challenging movement experiences, enabling dancers to surpass their perceived limitations. This approach unlocks greater potential and allows dancers to achieve new levels of physical virtuosity. His work emphasizes the importance of extreme movement experiences to challenge movers, and by integrating practices that push both physical and cognitive boundaries, Garcia fosters an environment that encourages a deeper understanding of the body in motion. His work has been showcased nationally and internationally at the Instituto de Arquitectura, Diseño y Arte (Chihuahua, Mexico), the Reel East Texas Film Festival (Kilgore, Texas), the Opine Dance Festival (Philadelphia, PA), the COCO Dance Festival (Trinidad and Tobago), and the Contact Dance International Dance Festival (Toronto, Ontario). Additionally, he has worked closely with Frisco ISD, El Paso ISD, UTRGV, and El Paso Community College. Currently, Garcia is an Adjunct Professor of Dance at The University of North Texas and an artist in residence with the Garage Arts Project. He is also the co-founder and co-director of the College Dance Film Fest (CDFF). Connect with Daniel on Instagram @danielgarcia_mvmnt and visit his website at www.danielgarciam.org.
