Dr. Garcia has been involved in theatre education as a theatre teacher, theatre-for-youth director, textbook consultant, and researcher. His publications have appeared in Youth Theatre Journal, Stage of the Art, Research in Drama Education, Multicultural Perspectives, and Teaching & Learning: The Journal of Natural Inquiry. In addition to numerous published articles, he has presented papers that address issues of diversity in teacher education at international conferences in Jordan, Great Britain, and Switzerland. He was selected as a recipient of UNT's Developing Scholars Award for 1999-2000, received UNT's 1999 Student Association Honor Professor Award, and named by the students in UNT's Honors Program as the 1998-99 Outstanding Faculty Member. Most recently, he received the prestigious 2000 Barbara Salisbury Wills Alliance Award for his continued service to the American Alliance for Theatre & Education. He has been a journal editor for Stage of the Art and is currently co-editor of Youth Theatre Journal.
